Japanese Red maple
Acer palmatum
Japanese red maple trees are a staple of Japanese gardens and have been populating western gardens since they arrived in England in 1820 (Arbor Day Foundation, 2018). Japanese red maples lend a beautiful red to deep purple color to the areas in which they reside. Part of the red color comes from the seed pods released each fall. Two notable Japanese red maple trees are located close to Brownlee Hall. One is dedicated to continued peace in Persian Gulf and the other is dedicated to Josephine Mary Cipriany Patrick - Jan, 24, 1996.
